Smurfit Westrock said on November 3 that it was investing about R$120 million to modernize its corrugated packaging site in Blumenau, Brazil. The company dates the project from 2025 through 2027 and describes spending on new machinery, automated lines and a larger dispatch warehouse.
How the upgrade could affect buyers
New converting equipment can affect which box formats the site can run and when those formats are available for customer trials. A larger dispatch warehouse addresses a different stage, where finished orders are held and prepared for shipment. Procurement teams can ask separately about the equipment commissioning schedule and the dispatch capacity available for their orders.
The company gave no figure for incremental tonnage or a commissioning date for each line. Before planning an order transfer, a buyer can ask which formats will be qualified on the upgraded lines, when samples will be available and whether delivery windows will change.
The earliest benefit is more likely to show up in repeat orders for existing box formats. Buyers already have a delivery baseline for those orders, and extra dispatch space could help when the bottleneck is staging finished boxes for shipment. A custom format depends more on when the new line can run it reliably. Before reducing safety stock or moving volume, compare a repeat order against the same specification and delivery lane, using on-time shipment and completeness of the order as measures. Sustained performance through the next peak dispatch period would be a stronger reason to revisit the stock buffer.
