The Okun Ajah plastic collection centre in Lagos gathered about 76 metric tonnes of plastic from February through August 2026, Polysmart supply chain head Medinat Bakare said at the closing ceremony of a UN Industrial Development Organization project, as reported by Trust Radio.
Polysmart Packaging Limited operates the centre through Switch Recycling. Bakare said the collected plastic was sent to Polysmart’s facility in Mowe for further processing. The Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance supplied a baler, while private partners contributed land, staff and operational support.
What the collection number can tell packaging teams
The reported volume gives brand owners and producer responsibility schemes a starting point for assessing collection capacity. To estimate usable packaging feedstock, teams still need the material breakdown, sorting losses and records showing what the processor accepted. The figures presented for Okun Ajah measure plastic collected at the site.
The next evidence to watch is whether the centre can sustain shipments and document how much sorted material the processor can use. That would help buyers assess the reliability of the recovered supply.
